I built this support for both projects.yml and projects.yaml files into lyra.
The problem is that both file extensions are being used, even if the .yaml extension is preferred according to yaml faq's (https://yaml.org/faq.html).
I thought if we support both, that's a better user experience for anyone using lyra.
