Edge-assisted multi-modal sensing and embedded control prototype for EV fire-risk monitoring
FireGuard is framed as a safety-critical embedded CPS prototype, not as a mature commercial product. The project focuses on an end-to-end sensing-decision-actuation loop for underground EV parking fire-risk monitoring.
- Built a Jetson Nano + ESP32 closed-loop prototype linking multi-modal sensing, weighted risk fusion, serial communication, and ESP32-side actuation control.
- Integrated 80x62 infrared thermal sensing, MQ-2 smoke/gas indication, and visible fire/smoke cues for event-triggered monitoring.
- Observed weighted risk-decision response at approximately 1 s in video-supported prototype observations.
- Completed 100+ practical prototype actuation trials on a 390 V electromagnetic ejection testbed, supported by prototype demonstration videos.
- Chinese Invention Patent Application No. 202610514577.7, accepted and under review; First Inventor.
Current research extension: structured response-time logging, sensor timestamping, edge-side decision latency, serial command-dispatch delay, ESP32-side scheduling, actuation feedback timing, and repeatable mock-input tests for timing-aware embedded CPS validation.
- Designed a preliminary multi-modal sensing framework combining visual features, audio cues, and smoke/gas state input.
- Prepared system-framework figures, prior-art mapping, and technical disclosure materials for a related Chinese invention patent disclosure under drafting.
