This project contains specialized skills, MCP (Model Context Protocol) integrations, and custom modes that empower IBM Bob to orchestrate and execute technical migrations with precision and efficiency.

What This Project Provides

Custom Migration Modes

Eight specialized modes that guide you through each phase of migration:

1. 🔍 Migration Assessment Mode - Comprehensive analysis and discovery of migration requirements, risks, and feasibility
2. 📋 Migration Planning Mode - Strategic planning and roadmap creation for migration execution

A collection of specialized skills that Bob uses throughout the migration lifecycle. These skills are automatically invoked by the appropriate mode to handle specific tasks

How Bob Helps with Migrations

Bob leverages the 7Rs Migration Framework to provide intelligent assistance throughout your migration journey:

1. Find the Suitable Migration Strategy

Bob analyzes your current state and recommends the optimal approach from the 7Rs framework:

• Rehost (Lift and Shift) - Minimal changes, fastest migration
• Replatform (Lift, Adaptation, and Shift) - Optimize for target platform
• Repurchase (Drop and Shop) - Replace with SaaS or managed service
• Refactor/Re-architect (Modernize) - Restructure for cloud-native patterns
• Retire (Decommission) - Remove unused components
• Retain (Keep as-is) - Defer migration if not ready
• Relocate (Hypervisor-level migration) - Infrastructure-level move

2. Design and Planning

Getting Started

Prerequisites

• IBM Bob IDE installed
• Access to your migration source code/systems
• Basic understanding of your migration goals

Quick Start

1. Clone or Download this Project:

   git clone <repository-url>
   cd ibm-bob-migration-framework

   This project can also be downloaded and unzipped instead of cloning

2. Open in IBM Bob IDE:

   • Launch IBM Bob IDE
   • Open the project folder
   • Bob will automatically detect custom modes and skills from the .bob directory

3. Start with Orchestration Mode:

   • Switch to "🎯 Migration Orchestrator Mode"
   • Bob will guide you through the migration phases
   • Follow Bob's recommendations and validations

   This project also supports jumping to each mode without using the orchestration, useful for long-running migration sessions where each mode can be continued independently

4. Execute Your Migration:

   • Bob will orchestrate the entire process
   • Review and approve each phase transition
   • Monitor progress through automated checkpoints
