Not sure how this works, of if it works on Windows 11

I'm trying this on Windows 11, and I could not make it work as I expected.

I thought that by hitting

• Right Alt + ' followed by e I would get é.
• Right Alt + ` followed by e I would get è.

I do see that with Right Alt several keys emit accented letters, but for example, I coult not find è.

I wonder if I completely misunderstood how this layout is supposed to work...

I think you might have, this is the standard US International keymapping however it eliminates the dead keys.

It sounds like you're actually trying to make use of those. The "dead keys" refers to needing to press another character after having pressed the accents, so that if you want just the accent character you need to hit the key and then press Space.

This keyboard map is meant for those that want to preserve all the character mappings but not have any dead keys (like the standard US layout).

In order to write the characters you are after on the US International keymap you would press altgr+e for é , however è is not mapped and requires a dead key combination to type in this case (first pressing ` and then pressing e) however that's not possible with the keyboard mapping this repo.

But on the other hand it is already the deafult behaviour of the US International keyboard map in Windows, so I suspect that's what you'd want to use instead.

So you haven't taken French, Catalan, Spanish, Italian, or Portuguese into account, for example, huh?

@ccnmxns If you need the full character map of any languages that rely on dead keys then obviously you should use a keymap with support for dead keys, not a keymap that is intentionally eliminating dead keys.

This keymap is explicitly for people who have no use for/do not want the dead keys (as implied by the name).

For those that want/need dead keys, the official US International key mapping already does what they want so not sure why they would come to an explicitly modified version that removes dead keys.
