This middleware was introduced in 651f2d1 to create a session for every user — connected to the collaboration websocket or not — so the backend could arbitrate who may save a document (websocket payload flag and save lock). The whole safeguard was removed in 68f5f5c when the content and its permissions moved to yhub, leaving the middleware orphaned: nothing reads an anonymous session anymore (the OIDC login flow saves its own session, CSRF is cookie-based, throttling is not session-keyed). It only kept a cost: a Redis write plus a Set-Cookie on every anonymous response, which had already required two bugfix commits to exempt the probes. A regression test pins the probe invariant going forward.
After removing the ForceSessionMiddleware we can detect without calling the /users/me endpoint if a user is anonymous or not. We now check the presence of the cookie session to avoid the http call and directly return an anonymous user.

Purpose
In commit 651f2d1 we added a middleware to force the session creation for anonymous users. This was useful for checking in the collaboration server if a user is connected or not. All the code created in the same time to check if a user can update or not a document if not connected to the websocket is now removed. The last part remaining is this middleware.
Removing this middleware also allow us to detect earlier in the yhub server if a user is connected or not. Without session cookie present we can detect that the user is not connected and remove a useless http call on /users/me.
Proposal
ForceSessionMiddlewareusers/mecall for callers without a session cookie
