This comes with a bit of reformatting since with statements can now use parentheses since Python 3.9.
This is the same version mentioned elsewhere in the README.
Replace `Optional[...]` with `... | None` since we now require Python 3.10+.
Replace deprecated typing Type/Dict/List/Tuple with built-in generics.
Replace typing.Union with the | operator for type hints. This is possible now that we require Python 3.10 or later.
