Implementation LGTM, however I'm concerned about testing as this won't be compiled by the current CI. Would you be able to look at extending the current github actions workflow to build this (either via emulation of freebsd or cross-compilation? |

We use this crate at where I work and I needed to make it work with freebsd, so I'm submitting the patch we use. If you'd like anything changed in this let me know!
