Installation
- Connect the laptop to the Internet
- Open Mozilla Firefox browser
- Go to this site: https://github.com/open-learning-exchange
- Click on the Bell-Installer-for-Windows link
5. Click the release button.
6. Click the tags button.
7. Find version 1.0.52 (or the most updated version) and click on the .zip download link
8. When the download prompt pops up, select Open with 7Zip File Manager, and click OK
9. When the 7Zip File Manager opens, select the “Bell-Installer…” file and click the Extract button
10. When the prompt window shows up, ensure that the Downloads folder from the drop-down menu is selected and click Ok.

The following window will display, please wait until the files finish copying:
11. Go to your Downloads file. Double-click on the Bell-Installer-for-Windows-1.0.52 file file to open.
12. Double-click on the Bell-Installer-for-Windows-1.0.36 file to open.
if there is already a community installed on the laptop, double-click the uninstall.bat and follow the prompts to uninstall the existing community. When uninstalled, continue on to step 13
Uninstall Instructions:
- A node.exe window will display. Do not close this window.
- Node.js Uninstall:
- Once the Prompt pops up, click Next
- Click the Remove button
- Click the next Remove button
- Click the Yes button
- Click the Finish button
- Apache CouchDB Uninstall:
- Click the Yes button
- Click the next Yes button
- You may be asked to restart the computer, click the Yes button, restart the computer
- Click the Okay button
- You have successfully uninstalled. Continue to Step 13 to install the new community.
13. Double-click the build.bat file
14. When the next prompt displays, click the Yes button
15. When the 7-Zip Setup prompt displays, click the Install button
16. The 7-Zip Installer window will display. Click the Finish button
17. Open the Downloads folder again, Double-click the Bell-Installer-for-Windows-1.0.36 folder.
18. Double-click the install.bat file
A black cmd.exe window will appear on the screen. Do not close this window - it must remain open throughout this entire installation process.
19. A Node.js Setup Wizard window will display. Click the Next button.
20. The next window will ask you to accept the Node.js End User Agreement. Check the Checkbox to the left of “I accept the terms in the License Agreement”. Then click the Next button.
21. When the next window displays, click the Next button
22. When the next window displays, click the Next button
23. When the next window displays, click the Install button
24. A window will display indicating that Node.js is being installed on your computer. At the bottom of your screen, you should see a flashing blue and yellow shield icon - click this Icon.
25. When the next window displays, click the Yes button
26. The Node.js Setup window will indicate that Node.js installation process is occurring. Do not click any buttons
27. The Node.js Setup window will indicate that Node.js installation process has completed. Click the Finish button.
28. When the next window displays, click the Yes button
29. The Apache CouchDB Setup Window will appear. Click the Next button.
30. The next window will ask you to accept the Apache CouchDB License Agreement. Select the Circle to the left of “I accept the agreement”. Then click the Next button.
31. When the next window displays, click the Next button.
32. When the next window displays, click the Next button.
33. When the next window displays, click the Next button. It is important that you do NOT un-select the two checkboxes - leave them selected
34. When the next window displays, click the Install button.
35. When the next window displays, click the Finish button.
36. At the bottom of your screen, you should see a flashing blue and yellow shield icon - click this Icon.
37. When the next window displays, click the Next button.
38. When the next window displays, click the Next button.
39. The next window will ask you to accept the GPL Ghostscript License Agreement. Click the I Agree button.
40. When the next window displays, click the Install button.
41. When the next window displays, un-check the Checkbox to the left of “Show Readme”. Then click the Finish button.
42. When the next window displays, click the Yes button
43. A Setup Wizard window for GraphicsMagick. Click the Next button.
44. The next window will ask you to accept the **GraphicsMagick** License Agreement. Select the Circle to the left of “I accept the agreement”. Then click the Next button.
45. When the next window displays, click the Next button.
46. When the next window displays, click the Next button.
47. When the next window displays, click the Next button.
48. When the next window displays, click the Next button. Do NOT touch any of the checkboxes.
49. When the next window displays, click the Install button.
50. When the next window displays, click the Next button.
51. When the next window displays, un-check the Checkbox to the left of “View index.html”. Then click the Finish button.
The black cmd.exe window will begin to display activity. Wait until the window has completed all activities - this may take a few minutes.
52. When the cmd.exe window has completed all activities, Firefox will launch and automatically take you to your community BeLL Configurations page. At this page, please enter information as follows:
Name: Enter the "CommunityName"
Capitalize the first letter and do not add a space if there is more than one word i.e., Boston
Code: Enter the "communityname"
Use all lowercase letters and do not add a space if there is more than one word i.e., boston
Type: Select "community" from the drop-down menu
Region: Enter the Region in which the community is located. This might be a particular state or province within a country or may be the name of a project within a nation. Discuss this with your Nation Manager. i.e., Massachusetts
Nation Name: Enter the nationbell name that is associated with the Community i.e., earthbell
Nation Url: Type the nationbell’s url: [nationbell].ole.org:[nation’s port number] i.e., earthbell.ole.org:5991
Version & Notes: Leave these fields blank
Available Languages: Select English
Current Language: Leave this field blank
53. Once you have entered all information as outlined in Step 52, click the Submit Configurations button. A window will display indicating that the Configurations were successfully saved. Click the Okay button.
54. Congratulations! You have successfully installed your community BeLL. Please note: A “MyBell” icon is now displayed on the computer’s desktop - please double-click this button to navigate to your community BeLL in the future.
