Turn everyday chores into an adventure.
Chore Quest is a bespoke Progressive Web App (PWA) that transforms everyday chores and self-care into an engaging, gamified experience for children.
Instead of relying on reminders, fridge magnets and paper checklists, children complete quests, earn points, unlock bonus challenges and gradually build positive daily habits through play.
Designed for a real family, Chore Quest demonstrates how thoughtful UX, lightweight architecture and gamification can encourage independence while keeping the experience fun.
This repository is a public showcase of the project. The application source code remains private.
As a self-employed parent, balancing client work with family life can be challenging, especially during the school holidays.
Like many parents, I found myself repeating the same reminders every day.
Brush your teeth.
Tidy your room.
Put your clothes away.
Rather than creating another checklist, I wanted to build something my children would genuinely enjoy using.
The project quickly became a family collaboration.
Instead of asking them to stay out of my way while I worked, I invited them to help design their own app. They spent an afternoon drawing characters, icons and ideas, one of which became the app's favicon. From there, they started suggesting chores, rewards, bonus challenges and features, many of which found their way into the finished application.
Because they helped create it, they became genuinely excited to use it. New ideas still appear regularly, and Chore Quest continues to evolve based on their imagination and feedback.
For me, this project isn't just about tracking chores, my goal is encouraging independence, rewarding positive habits and showing my children that technology can be something you create, not just something you consume.
