In `@backend/utils/chunked_tts.py`:
- Line 217: Update the tag-boundary condition in the chunking logic to treat a
tag starting exactly at cut as spanning the cut by using an inclusive start
comparison. Preserve the existing end-exclusive check so tags ending at cut
remain valid boundaries.
- Line 69: Update _UNICODE_SENTENCE_END_RE to include the Arabic question mark
character \u061f as a sentence terminator, and add a regression case covering
Arabic question text so chunking preserves that sentence boundary.
- Line 371: Update the generation flow around generate_one and
split_text_into_chunks to handle an empty chunk list before accessing chunks[0].
Reject whitespace-only input or raise the established controlled error, while
preserving normal generation for non-empty chunks.
- Line 330: Update the retry threshold and halving calculation in the chunked
TTS retry logic to use chunk_measure(chunk_text) instead of len(), matching the
existing measure=chunk_measure usage and preserving the permitted byte-based
retry budget.
- Line 219: Update the unmatched opening-bracket lookup in the chunking logic to
search only the candidate prefix through cut, rather than the entire remaining
segment. Ensure the resulting chunk never exceeds the configured budget while
preserving existing handling of unmatched tags.
In `@README.md`:
- Line 156: Update the auto-chunking limit description in the README to state
that the value is measured in characters generally, but Chatterbox interprets
max_chunk_chars as a UTF-8 byte budget.

Summary
Fixes #1066.
This changes Chatterbox multilingual chunk budgeting so
max_chunk_charsis measured as UTF-8 bytes for that engine, while other engines keep the existing character-count behavior. It also expands sentence boundary detection for Indic, Arabic, and CJK punctuation and keeps bracket tags atomic across hard-cut fallback cases.Production generation now routes through
generate_chunked_for_engine(...)so queued generation, sync generation, and stream generation all use the same engine-aware chunk measure.Test verification (RED -> GREEN)

Review notes
Independent sub-agent review found tag-splitting, production-wiring coverage, and fast-path whitespace edge cases during development; all were fixed and covered by regression tests before opening this PR. CodeRabbit then found Arabic question mark, retry-budget, unmatched-tag, empty-text, and README clarification issues; those are addressed in the latest commit. OCR native review could not run locally because no LLM endpoint was configured, and
