HiDNS operates as a Private Domain Name Registry (PDNR), providing free subdomain registrations within the HiDNS namespace. The project was initiated by ifeng in November 2024 as an independent effort to explore a more open and developer-friendly domain namespace.
The name HiDNS comes from "Hello DNS" — a simple greeting to developers, creators, and anyone building on the internet. What began as a small experiment has since evolved into a stable platform accepted into the Public Suffix List (PSL) in August 2025, enabling broad compatibility across browsers and internet services.
HiDNS is not backed by venture capital and does not operate as a commercial domain registrar. It is maintained as a long-term community infrastructure project focused on reliability, careful governance, and responsible operation of a shared namespace.

HiDNS uses an invitation-based registration model to balance openness with responsible stewardship of the shared namespace. This is not meant to restrict access — it is a chain of trust designed to ensure the namespace remains healthy and abuse-free.
The process is similar to how V2EX works: ask a friend who is already using HiDNS for an invitation code. Invite codes are also periodically distributed through the official Telegram channel.
Invite code eligibility is granted to users who have used HiDNS normally for more than three years without abuse.
- Obtain an invite code from an existing HiDNS user or via the official Telegram channel
- Visit hidoha.net and sign up using your invite code with a regularly used email address
- Choose a subdomain prefix — it must be concise, appropriate, and relevant to your intended use
- Submit your domain application through the control panel (no payment required)
- Open a support ticket describing your intended use — your domain will be reviewed and activated within 72 hours
- Follow the Telegram channel to stay updated on announcements and policies
⚠️ Please use a long-term, regularly checked email address. If HiDNS is unable to contact you regarding security issues, your domain may be suspended.

Because this is a free shared namespace, abuse prevention is essential to keeping it available for everyone. HiDNS enforces the following:
- Manual review of domain applications and intended use statements
- Monitoring of subdomains, including those appearing in certificate transparency logs
- Detection of phishing, malware, spam, fraud, and other malicious activity
- Strict one-person-one-account policy
- Immediate suspension of domains involved in serious violations
The following are strictly prohibited:
- Phishing websites or fraudulent services
- Malware, trojans, virus distribution, or C2 control
- Spam distribution and scam activities
- Unauthorized mirroring or malicious proxying of third-party websites
- Distributing pirated content (software, movies, music, etc.)
- Temporary or disposable email services
- Using HiDNS subdomains to build third-party bulk subdomain distribution platforms
Domains involved in serious violations may be suspended without prior notice. Violations such as phishing or malware distribution are non-appealable.

By using HiDNS, you agree to comply with and be bound by these terms. Violations may result in suspension or permanent termination of your subdomain and account.
Each subdomain has a validity period. To keep your domain active:
- Renewal is free and can be completed through the account management panel
- Renewal reminders are sent via email 90 days before expiration
- Domains not renewed within the expiration window are considered inactive and released for others to register
- Cancelled domain configuration and data cannot be recovered
If you discover abuse within the HiDNS namespace (hidns.cc, hidns.co, hidns.vip), please report it to us. All reports are reviewed manually.
When reporting, please include:
- The full domain name involved
- The specific URL where the abuse occurs
- A brief description of the issue
- Any supporting evidence (screenshots, logs, timestamps)
