Explain Change →

Walkthrough

The CI pull request page now displays stack status and navigation when stack data is available. A new model orders stack entries and identifies adjacent entries. The page also distinguishes display-only stacked PRs from active PRs.

Changes: CI Pull Request Stack Display

Layer / File(s) Summary
Stack entry model and tests
services/ui/src/ci/components/stackStripModel.ts, services/ui/src/ci/components/stackStripModel.test.ts, services/ui/src/ci/components/prTableModel.ts
The new model sorts stack entries, identifies the current and adjacent entries, and marks metadata values beginning with http as links. Tests cover ordering, adjacent entries, position fallback, and metadata links. stackedOn now accepts only the relevant stack fields.
Stack display on the PR page
services/ui/src/ci/components/StackStrip.tsx, services/ui/src/ci/pr.tsx
The PR page identifies display-only stacked PRs, updates their status and notice, and conditionally renders build and merge panels. The StackStrip sidebar displays stack metadata, entry tiles, and adjacent-step links. It scrolls its list to the current tile when the PR number changes.

The stack display is mergeable with bounded follow-up: open pages can retain stale status until reload, large stacks can undercount merged PRs, and some metadata links navigate incorrectly. No build execution or persisted-data failure is established.

Explanation

The title "[ci] add stack details to PR details pages" matches the main change. The changeset adds a StackStrip component and stack metadata to the PR details page in the CI UI, so the title is specific and accurate.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description covers the change and the security assessment. It states the purpose of the change, marks the potential impact on the Hail Batch instance, rates the impact as low, and gives a short impact justification. The Appsec Review item is present but unchecked, which the template marks as required. The Change Description also omits the issue reference line. That line is optional because the template says to delete it when no issue applies, and the description does not state whether an issue exists.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Poor tradeoff

Open PRs that fall back to the GitHub summary render as closed.

The details endpoint returns a GitHub summary for any PR that is in neither wb.prs nor wb.stacked_prs. That summary has no display_only key, so PrPage sets stacked to false. The open PR then falls through to the merged-based status branches and shows a closed label. The summary also has no open/closed state, so the page cannot tell the PR apart from a closed one.

Do not add display_only to the fallback response unconditionally. That would mark every open PR outside the watched stacks as "open, stacked" and show the "Not built" notice. The fix must identify open PRs that belong to a watched stack. Track those PRs in the stacked set on the server side, or add an explicit open-state field to the fallback response.

Qualify the merged count when the stack entry list is capped.

stack.entries holds at most 30 PRs, but stack.size counts every PR in the stack. When a merged PR falls outside the returned list, the strip shows an understated · N merged beside the full stack size. It can omit the merged indicator entirely. Count merged entries only when the list covers the full stack, or label the count as partial.

Test the Stack Meta value before rendering it as a link.

stackMetaItems marks any value that starts with http as a link. A plain-text value such as httpd-team therefore renders as an anchor. Its href is the raw text, so clicking it opens a relative CI URL in a new tab. Use a scheme check in stackMetaItems:

Keep polling display-only stacked PR pages so they pick up activation.

A stacked PR response has display_only: true and no pending_build_reason. The poll effect returns early for it, so no refresh interval starts. When the PR below merges, GitHub retargets this PR onto the watched branch. The next refresh returns it as an active PR, with the build and merge panels enabled. The only other refresh runs at mount, so an open page keeps the "Not built" state until it is reloaded.

Let the existing poll also run while display_only is true. Pending-build polling still runs as before, and polling stops once the PR is active with no pending build:

Suggested fix

-    if (!pr || pr.batch || !pr.pending_build_reason || !autoRefresh) return;
+    if (!pr || pr.batch || !(pr.pending_build_reason || pr.display_only) || !autoRefresh) return;
