I attempted to reproduce this behaviour and got this
are your bios loaded that causes this grey screen affect
I suspect the application not able to read the file for some reason (permissions, external disk, cloud drive, etc...).
That's why I need the log from a command line execution trying to load the file.
Is this the only game that doesn't load or are there other games that fail to load?

Maybe you enabled debug mode and closed all windows?
I'm ready to explain. If the debug mode is enabled, the gameplay won't show up. If the debug mode isn't enabled, the gameplay WILL show up. Look at the pictures.
If you enable the debug mode the emulator can show many debug windows.
You don't have any debug window enabled.
There is an option in the debug menu to "Show Output Screen".
In the same way, you can enable many other debug windows.I recommend you not using the debugger and just use the normal mode.
