Research notes behind this repository

This README is based on public OpenAI documentation, OpenAI release material, safety documentation, third-party reporting and practical image generation workflow patterns.

Official OpenAI model documentation

OpenAI’s API model page documents gpt-image-2 as a state-of-the-art image generation model for fast, high-quality image generation and editing. It supports flexible image sizes and high-fidelity image inputs. The model accepts text as input and image as input/output. Audio and video are not supported for this model.

Reference:

ChatGPT Images 2.0 product layer

OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Images 2.0 on April 21, 2026 as a major update to image generation. OpenAI’s release notes and system card describe stronger world knowledge, improved instruction following, dense text/detail generation, image “thinking” mode, live web search integration in the ChatGPT experience, multiple image generation from a single prompt and improved safety/provenance handling.

References:

Important distinction

Do not confuse these layers:

Layer What it means
ChatGPT Images 2.0 Product experience inside ChatGPT
GPT Image 2 / gpt-image-2 API model name
Images with thinking ChatGPT experience feature that can plan/refine before generating
Image API / Responses API Developer interfaces for image generation/editing
Cliprise workflow Multi-model creative workflow that may combine image generation, editing, upscaling and video

A good resource should not mix these into one vague claim.

What this repo does differently

Many prompt pages are built like this:

50 prompts -> copy button -> generic image tool CTA

This repository is built like this:

Use case -> visual brief -> reference preservation -> prompt structure -> edit strategy -> QA checklist -> Cliprise workflow

That is more useful for real production work.

GPT Image 2 in one sentence

GPT Image 2 is best treated as a structured visual reasoning and editing model for turning specific creative briefs and image references into more accurate, production-ready visual outputs.

That means prompts should read less like random wishes and more like creative briefs.

The GPT Image 2 prompt formula

Use this structure for image generation:

Create a [format] image for [purpose/audience].
Subject: [main subject with specific details].
Scene: [environment and visual context].
Composition: [framing, layout, aspect ratio, negative space].
Style: [photographic, editorial, product, poster, UI, illustration, etc.].
Lighting and color: [light direction, palette, mood].
Details to include: [important details].
Details to avoid: [artifacts, wrong text, extra objects, unsafe claims].
Output intent: [ad, thumbnail, product image, poster, social post, source frame].

Example:

Create a vertical 9:16 product ad image for a premium AI productivity app.
Subject: a modern smartphone showing abstract creative dashboard cards without readable text.
Scene: clean dark desk with soft neon reflections.
Composition: phone centered, strong negative space at the top for later headline copy, crisp product focus.
Style: premium SaaS launch visual, realistic studio photography, futuristic but minimal.
Lighting and color: deep navy background, soft cyan rim light, subtle violet highlights.
Details to include: clean reflections, sharp phone edges, professional campaign look.
Details to avoid: readable fake text, real brand logos, distorted UI, extra phones, clutter.
Output intent: social ad image that can later become an image-to-video source frame.

Image editing prompt formula

Use this structure when editing an existing image:

Edit the image to [specific change].
Preserve [identity, subject, product shape, label, composition, colors, lighting].
Change only [specific element].
Improve [quality, clarity, lighting, background, layout].
Avoid [distortion, fake text, extra objects, wrong identity, logo changes].
Output should be suitable for [use case].

Example:

Edit this product photo for a premium e-commerce product page. Preserve the exact product shape, label placement, color, proportions and camera angle. Replace the background with a clean warm beige studio surface. Add realistic soft shadow under the product, improve clarity and remove small distractions. Do not change packaging details, do not invent text, do not distort the logo, do not add extra objects.

High-fidelity input prompt formula

Use this when source image preservation matters:

Use the uploaded image as the primary visual reference.
Preserve [specific details that must remain accurate].
Change [specific element only].
Keep [composition/style/lighting/identity] consistent.
Generate [number/type of variations] for [use case].
Avoid [common failure modes].

Example:

Use the uploaded image as the primary product reference. Preserve the product shape, label placement, color, material texture and camera angle. Create three premium background variations for a social media ad campaign: dark studio, warm lifestyle desk, and clean white e-commerce background. Keep the product accurate in every version. Do not invent new label text, do not distort the logo, do not change the packaging, do not add extra products.

Why structured visual briefs matter

GPT Image 2-style workflows can handle more detailed instructions, but detail only helps if it is organized.

Bad prompt:

Make a great ad image.

Better prompt:

Create a square social media ad image for a premium water bottle brand. Show a matte stainless steel bottle standing on a wet stone surface with soft morning light, clean mountain background, subtle condensation, centered product composition, natural green and silver palette, realistic commercial photography style, no text, no logo distortion, no extra bottles, no unrealistic water drops.

The better prompt defines:

  • format
  • purpose
  • subject
  • setting
  • lighting
  • composition
  • palette
  • realism level
  • restrictions

GPT Image 2 is useful for

Strong use cases

  • AI art concepts
  • high-fidelity image editing
  • image-to-image transformations
  • text-heavy visual drafts
  • infographics and layout drafts

Use with caution

  • final legal brand identities
  • exact product labels without review
  • medical, legal or financial claims
  • official-looking documents

Workflow: GPT Image 2 for product images

Step 1: Define product accuracy

Before prompting, decide what must stay accurate:

  • shape
  • label
  • color
  • packaging
  • material
  • camera angle
  • product proportions
  • logo position
  • reflection style
  • background requirements

Step 2: Generate or edit

Use generation if you need a concept.

Use editing if you already have a real product image.

Step 3: Create variations

Generate:

  • white background version
  • lifestyle version
  • dark studio version
  • social ad version
  • thumbnail version
  • image-to-video source frame

Step 4: QA

Check:

  • fake label text
  • logo distortion
  • product shape
  • color accuracy
  • reflections
  • background realism
  • platform compliance

Workflow: GPT Image 2 for ad creatives

Step 1: Separate image and copy

It is often better to generate the visual without final text, then add copy manually.

Step 2: Build visual hierarchy

A good ad image needs:

  • one focal point
  • simple background
  • strong contrast
  • negative space for copy
  • platform-specific crop
  • brand color direction

Step 3: Generate multiple creative routes

Try:

  • product hero
  • lifestyle scene
  • founder/creator scene
  • abstract brand visual
  • problem/solution concept
  • before/after concept
  • image-to-video source frame

Step 4: Review

Check:

  • misleading claims
  • fake text
  • brand compliance
  • product accuracy
  • platform fit
  • safe commercial use

Workflow: GPT Image 2 for image editing

Editing rule

Be specific about what changes and what stays unchanged.

Bad:

Make it better.

Better:

Replace the background with a warm beige studio setting while preserving the exact product shape, label, color, lighting direction and camera angle.

Common editing tasks

  • remove background
  • replace background
  • clean distractions
  • correct lighting
  • improve clarity
  • change product setting
  • create social crop
  • create poster crop
  • prepare source frame
  • create variations
  • adjust style

Editing QA

Check:

  • unintended identity changes
  • changed labels
  • distorted logos
  • warped hands
  • incorrect object edges
  • fake text
  • background seams
  • color changes

Workflow: GPT Image 2 for text-heavy images

GPT Image 2 and ChatGPT Images 2.0 have improved text rendering compared with older models, but text still needs QA.

Best practices

  • keep text short
  • use exact text quotes
  • request simple typography
  • request clear layout
  • avoid too many small text blocks
  • inspect spelling manually
  • add mission-critical text in design software if needed
  • create the background separately when typography must be perfect

Text prompt example

Create a clean square poster with the exact headline text: "CREATE FASTER".
Typography: bold uppercase sans-serif, centered, large, perfectly spelled.
Background: dark navy gradient with subtle cyan glow.
Composition: headline in center, small abstract spark icon below.
Avoid: extra words, misspellings, distorted letters, fake logos, clutter.

Good use cases

  • simple posters
  • bold headlines
  • short labels
  • visual concepts
  • social cards
  • meme drafts
  • title cards

Riskier use cases

  • legal documents
  • detailed infographics
  • tables
  • invoices
  • medical labels
  • small product packaging text
  • dense multilingual documents

Workflow: GPT Image 2 to AI video

A strong image prompt can become the first frame of an AI video.

Good source frame qualities

  • clear main subject
  • clean composition
  • simple background
  • strong subject-background separation
  • stable lighting
  • no fake text
  • no distorted hands
  • no messy product labels

Subject: [subject].
Composition: [clear, stable, separated].
Lighting: [consistent].
Style: [cinematic/product/social].
Motion potential: [what could move later].
Avoid: text, clutter, distorted anatomy, fake logos.

Follow-up video prompt

Using the uploaded image as the exact visual reference, create a [duration]-second video.
Preserve [subject/product/style/composition].
Camera: [movement].
Motion: [motion].
Lighting: preserve original direction.
Restrictions: no text, no distortion, no identity changes.

Mistake 2: Asking for too much text

Dense text still needs review. Generate layout and short headlines, then add final text manually when precision matters.

Mistake 3: Not preserving source details

When editing or using reference images, explicitly state what must not change.

Mistake 4: Treating every output as final

Production workflow usually needs editing, upscaling, resizing and QA.

Mistake 5: Copying brand styles

Do not request images “in the style of” famous brands, living artists or protected visual identities. Describe visual qualities instead.

Mistake 6: Skipping commercial review

Check platform terms, input rights, output rights, copyright, trademark and likeness issues.

FAQ

What is GPT Image 2?

GPT Image 2 is OpenAI’s image generation and editing model documented as gpt-image-2 in the OpenAI API model documentation. It supports text input and image input/output for image generation and editing workflows.

What is ChatGPT Images 2.0?

ChatGPT Images 2.0 is the image generation product experience inside ChatGPT introduced by OpenAI in April 2026. It is related to next-generation image generation and “thinking” workflows in ChatGPT.

Is this an official OpenAI repository?

No. This is an independent educational prompt and workflow resource.

Is GPT Image 2 available on Cliprise?

Check Cliprise Models and official Cliprise app model availability. Do not assume availability unless it is listed in the current Cliprise interface or model page.

What is the best GPT Image 2 prompt structure?

A strong prompt includes purpose, subject, scene, composition, style, lighting, color, important details, restrictions and output intent.

Can GPT Image 2 edit images?

OpenAI’s model page describes GPT Image 2 as supporting image generation and editing. For production editing, clearly state what should change and what should be preserved.

Can GPT Image 2 render text?

ChatGPT Images 2.0 and GPT Image 2-related materials describe improved text/detail capabilities. Still, any generated text should be manually reviewed, especially for ads, packaging, legal content or commercial designs.

Should I use GPT Image 2 for logos?

Use it for logo concepts and direction, not final legal brand identity. Final logos need human review, vector refinement and trademark checks.

Should I generate final ad copy inside the image?

For important campaigns, generate the visual background first and add exact final copy in a design tool. Use generated text only after careful review.

Can GPT Image 2 create image-to-video source frames?

Yes, it can be useful for creating stable source images that are later animated with AI video tools. Keep source frames clean, simple and motion-ready.

How do I reduce failed outputs?

Use structured prompts, define what to preserve, avoid unnecessary complexity, generate variations, inspect outputs and edit the best result instead of regenerating blindly.

Can I use outputs commercially?

Commercial use depends on the platform terms, model terms, input rights, output rights, copyright risk, trademark risk, likeness rights and the exact use case. Review before publishing.
