Most Linux packaging systems provide a generic CPPFLAGS environement variable that should be used by every package.
CFLAGS may contain CPU architecture-related flags and these should also be passed to the linker. This mirror the behavior of most other build systems.

environement variables that should be used by every package.
These patches make sure these variables are used correctly.
