Rationale for this change
While working on #6106 I noticed a method that doesn't make sense and isn't used in the codebase, so it should be marked deprecated
I also noticed that several other deprecated methods didn't have a
sincemarking so I added a conservative oneWhat changes are included in this PR?
Are these changes tested?
Are there any user-facing changes?
A method is marked as deprecated -- I don't think anyone actually uses this
