Follow up with Meta Team on Sensei templates

This issue was discussed in the Office Hours session on May 23, 2026.

Since the WordPress 7.0 update, the Sensei templates on Learn WordPress are no longer visible or editable in the Site Editor. Previous requests to the Meta Team went unanswered. A follow-up is needed.

Tasks

• Open or reopen a ticket with the Meta Team describing the missing templates
• Include the impact (cannot set lesson meta fields such as WordPress version)
• Ask for a clear status update and timeline
• Document the response in the Training Team channel

Context

Without editable templates we cannot maintain the meta fields that classify lessons (for example the applicable WordPress version). This blocks long-term content maintenance on Learn WordPress.

Update from the Office Hours on 2026-06-27: still open. It would help to follow up with the Meta team on the Sensei templates.

Possible fix? Automattic/sensei#8178 Let's see if this issue resolves when Sensei 4.26.3 ships.

I was able to reproduce this locally with Gutenberg enabled and the experimental Template Activation setting enabled. Once I toggled that setting off, everything worked as expected. TBD whether this is something that should be fixed in Sensei or Gutenberg.

Hiya! I've fixed this issue in Sensei and double-checked that the lesson, quiz and email templates are available again in the site editor. Would be lovely to confirm and then close this one. 🥂
