UPS Server Project - Product Differentiation Writeup

Our UPS Server project, developed as a Django web application along with a backend server component, incorporates several unique and innovative features that set our project apart from standard implementations. 1. Front-End Background Music Player

Description:
Our web application enhances the user interface by integrating a background music player. This feature is implemented using an iframe embedded within the front-end, providing a continuous and engaging audio experience as users interact with the application.

  • Aesthetic Appeal: It enhances the aesthetic feel of the application, making it stand out in terms of design and user interaction.

2. User Parcel Address Modification

Description:
We have added a functionality that allows users to modify the shipping address of parcels that have not yet been loaded. The modified address details are updated in real time through our backend server, which communicates the changes to both the World and Amazon servers.

  • Flexibility: This feature provides users with the flexibility to change delivery details, enhancing customer satisfaction and convenience.
  • Efficiency: Immediate update and communication with World and Amazon servers ensure that the logistics are seamlessly adjusted without delay, reducing errors and operational hiccups.

Our backend server is equipped with an email notification system that sends confirmation emails to users upon the loading and successful delivery of parcels.

4. World Server Storage and Switching Functionality

Description:
A significant backend feature of our UPS server is the ability to switch between different World servers stored in the database through a world table. This functionality requires coordination with the Amazon server for seamless operation.

5. Detailed Views for Parcel Inspection

Description: Our UPS server project provides detailed views for parcel inspection, allowing users to view the contents of each parcel, including the item name, and quantity. Also, users can view various parcel list based on parcel status.

Additional Discussion

1. Startup order of services without docker

Description: The docker containerization of our UPS Server project allows for the automatic startup of services in a specific order. This ensures that the backend server is up and running after the database and frontend services are initialized. If you want to run the services without docker, you can start the services in the following order:

  1. Start the database service.
  2. Run the django app to init all the tables.
  3. Start the backend server.
  4. Register users after connected to world server.

2. Some features to be implemented in the future

Description: While our UPS Server project already offers a range of innovative features, there are additional functionalities that could be implemented in the future to further enhance the user experience and operational efficiency:

  • Real-time Parcel Tracking: Implementing a real-time parcel tracking system that allows users to track the exact location of their parcels during transit.
  • Music Player Customization: Providing users with the option to customize the background music player by selecting different tracks or playlists.
