Fossuk
Could you produce an article for the flossuk newsletter explaining what we’re doing, firstly for the TZM chapters and secondly that our ultimate goal - through the global redesign institute - is to develop an open source self-governance system, AKA the global resource management system as defined in Z:MF (include a link to the film)? You could mention the GIS – based systems used by supermarkets to manage supply and demand and product development, and how this model could be adapted to serve this new role – that would be a nice touch. You could also hypothesize how these systems might interface with 3d printing operations, vertical farms etc. I think this would be a great opportunity to sell TZM to the open source community and encourage their participation in something that could make them revolutionaries...
During my time with the Zeitgeist Movement, I have learned that the best way to help is to do something and then have others utilise this for the better of all. My background is in Energy Engineering and due to the way life has panned out I ended up in the IT / IS industry, mainly system administration and web site development, maybe because I was lazy.
The work done by the Phoenix[1] project has been to set out guidelines as to what we as a Movement need in order to achieve our goals to make a open and free platform to build a future different which includes all within a moneyless society. It is why, I decided to 'fork'[2], term used in Git[3] to copy and idea and see if you can make it better, the Phoenix project as I felt that what we use to communicate our ideas would better be achieved if we did not use systems which were specifically designed to be hierarchical, where you have a central 'servers' that control the 'clients'. It is how the ZMGC project arrived 4
#How is this achieved?
Currently, we all exchange information in blogs, google+, facebook or twitter, promoting the movement and this is needed. But we also need to start using these keystrokes to 'dig' into the machine in order to make these tools that will enable us to achieve this nirvana.
An idea which I recently presented is to use free services like AppFog (which incidentally provide 2Mb servers) to run any type of application and keep the static code on services like github or any other static server; this way we only need to build 'widgets' that connect each of our machine to send and receive information that we want to share and consume.
The advantages of this is that we can run all the tools we need on our local machine and just share what we choose to, it is more efficient and secure! We could use applications like Tor[5] or P2P[6] and anonymise this, thus making it non controllable by others.
As a first step, I have created a static html template[7] for members to clone, use, enhance and share back their enhancements, this template contains all the core content needed by chapter co-ordinators to quickly setup an on-line presence with all the functionality made available in order to keep in contact with their compatriots in order to free them from the mundane chores of having to keep content up to data or having to maintain servers.
From this static template we will create widgets that will be pluggable, thus making the static site interactive, as a simple example the Z-Tabzilla widget, which takes the Google Fusion Table maintained by Miguel that contains links to all the existing global chapters and pushes the information out to all those chapters who have installed it.
Similar widgets can be build, for example, to list the Z-Day 2013 events and how many users have subscribed to attend, based on this data we can then concentrate to help those who needs it, as we will be able to see at a glance what the turn out maybe, see the Meteor.js parties example of how easy it is to implement. Four lines of code to clone it and then launch it, all for free!
Where would all this takes us, not sure, but for certain it will open different opportunities in order to 'unplug' from the current status quo. For example we could build widgets that can connect to your local solar / wind / energy generation utility. Thus enabling us to start taking count of how much energy is being used and how much it is being produced at the locality. We could log any type of info and then share this with others, so for food production for example, we can then calculate the yields that your home based vertical garden setup produces in order to synchronise it with your neighbours home based vertical garden. So the two of you would always have fresh vegetables, fruits and flowers in your house!
There are many existing technologies we can use, but they are all on different platforms and use different languages to communicate and it is why we should not try to change this but simply access this data and then share it out.
This is what the ZMGC is aiming to achieve:
- Transparent publishing
- Devolved content management
- Access to existing data sources
- Integration with existing services
#Global Redesign Institute
Could this be a tool for the GRI, yes why not, if it helps to share the info in a non deterministic manner
