Running the App

git clone https://github.com/Symbiota/SymbiotaServices.git
cd SymbiotaServices
npm install && npm run build
composer install
cp .env.example .env

If you're running a local dev instance, you may need to run composer run dev.

Open an editor and edit .env to use mariadb. Something like this:

DB_CONNECTION=mariadb
DB_HOST=localhost
DB_PORT=3306
DB_DATABASE=symbdbservices
DB_USERNAME=symbwriter
DB_PASSWORD=password2

Then, create that database locally. From terminal:

mysql -u root -p
CREATE SCHEMA symbdbservices CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;
GRANT SELECT,EXECUTE ON symbdbservices.* TO symbreader@localhost;
GRANT CREATE,ALTER,SELECT,UPDATE,INSERT,DELETE,EXECUTE ON symbdbservices.* TO symbwriter@localhost;

Create application encryption key:

php artisan key:generate

Run the database migration:

php artisan migrate

Note that there's an .htaccess file in the public directory. It may need to be removed for local instances and customized in other environments as needed. This is the configuration that we have working currently in the dev001 server, which has an alias to the /Services path.

Also note that permissions for the storage/ and public/ directories may need to be relaxed: chmod -R g+rw,o+rw storage public.
