CredChain-Nexus

Blockchain-Based Academic Credential Verification System for Bangladesh 🇧🇩

Java Spring Boot Solidity Ethereum MySQL License

A secure, blockchain-powered academic credential verification platform designed to eliminate certificate fraud, streamline verification workflows, and establish institutional trust across Bangladesh.

📌 Overview

CredChain-Nexus enables universities, employers, and graduates to issue, manage, and verify academic credentials in a decentralized, tamper-proof environment. By combining blockchain technology, SHA-256 cryptographic hashing, and Solidity smart contracts, the system guarantees integrity, transparency, and instant verification of academic records.

This solution directly addresses the manual, paper-based verification bottlenecks at institutions such as the University of Dhaka, BUET, and CUET.

🎯 Problem Statement

Academic credential verification in Bangladesh faces systemic challenges:

Challenge Impact
Widespread forged certificates and transcripts Undermines institutional trust
Manual, paper-based verification Slow processing, high administrative cost
No unified digital infrastructure Fragmented, inconsistent records
Limited international accessibility Barriers for overseas employment and admissions

💡 Solution

Instead of storing raw certificate data on-chain, CredChain-Nexus stores a SHA-256 cryptographic hash of each credential on the blockchain — ensuring:

  • Data immutability — records cannot be altered after issuance
  • Tamper resistance — any modification breaks the hash match
  • Decentralized verification — no single point of failure or control
  • Privacy protection — sensitive data never leaves the institution

🏗️ System Architecture

[ Smart Contract ] ──► [ Blockchain Layer ] (Ethereum / Private Network)
        │
├──► [ Student Portal ] Signed certificate + QR code wallet
        │
        └──► [ Employer Portal ] QR scan → Hash comparison → ✅ Authenticated

Core Components

Administrative Panel — University authority inputs and validates credential data, generates the cryptographic hash, and deploys the transaction via smart contract.

Blockchain Layer — Ethereum-based or private blockchain network running Solidity smart contracts. Provides public verification access without exposing raw sensitive data.

Student Portal — Secure credential dashboard with downloadable digital certificate and a shareable QR verification code.

Verification Portal — Employers upload a credential or scan a QR code. The system performs automatic hash comparison against the blockchain record and returns a real-time authenticity result.

🛠️ Technology Stack

Layer Technology
Backend Java 17 (Spring Boot)
Frontend HTML, CSS, JavaScript
Blockchain Ethereum / Private Blockchain
Smart Contracts Solidity
Database MySQL
Local Blockchain Testing Ganache
Wallet / Chain Interaction MetaMask
API Testing Postman
IDE IntelliJ IDEA

🔐 Operational Workflow

1. University uploads verified academic credential data
        │
        ▼
2. System generates a SHA-256 hash of the credential
        │
        ▼
3. Hash is recorded on-chain via a deployed smart contract
        │
        ▼
4. Student receives a digitally signed certificate with embedded QR code
        │
        ▼
5. Employer scans QR code or uploads credential to the verification portal
        │
        ▼
6. System compares generated hash against the blockchain record
        │
        ▼
7. ✅ Match confirmed → Credential is authentic
❌ Mismatch → Credential flagged as invalid

🚀 Key Features

  • Tamper-proof credential records via cryptographic hashing
  • Real-time authentication with no administrative delay
  • Privacy-preserving — raw data never stored on-chain
  • QR code verification for instant employer validation
  • Scalable architecture suitable for nationwide institutional rollout
  • Compatible with both public and private institutions

📊 Comparative Advantages

Traditional System CredChain-Nexus
Manual, paper-based verification Instant blockchain verification
