LinkedIn Profile Optimization Guide

How to turn your LinkedIn profile into one recruiters actually find — not just a complete profile, but a discoverable one. A practical, recruiter-search-first guide.

The #1 thing people get wrong

Recruiters don't scroll — they search. They run Boolean queries built from job titles, skills, and keywords. If your profile doesn't contain the terms they search, you don't exist to them — no matter how "complete" your profile looks. Optimize for findability, not vanity completeness.

🧲 Headline (your most important keyword real estate)

  • Don't just list your current title. Pack in role + specialties + tools.
  • Use the format: Role | Specialty · Domain · Tools | Proof point
    • Product Manager | B2B SaaS · Roadmapping · Analytics | Scaled ARR 3x
  • Include searchable synonyms: Product Manager (PM), Software Engineer / SWE.
  • Skip vanity words: passionate, dynamic, results-driven, guru, ninja.

📝 About section

  • First person, concrete hook in the first 1–2 lines (you get truncated fast).
  • Lead with what you do + the problems you solve, not "I am a passionate…".
  • Include at least one quantified outcome.
  • Weave in the keywords recruiters search — naturally, not stuffed.

💼 Experience

  • Each bullet: action verb → what you did → measurable impact (%, $, scale).
  • Mirror the language of the roles you're targeting.
  • Cut filler ("worked closely with stakeholders") that says nothing.

🔑 Skills & keywords

  • Add 15–25 skills recruiters actually filter on for your target role.
  • Mix hard skills, tools/platforms, and methodologies.
  • Get endorsements on your top skills — they influence search ranking.

✅ Profile completeness signals recruiters look for

  • Professional photo + custom banner
  • Custom profile URL (linkedin.com/in/yourname)
  • Current role filled in with a real title
  • A few recommendations
  • "Open to work" set (recruiter-visible mode) when job searching

🔄 Keep LinkedIn and your resume consistent

Recruiters cross-reference your LinkedIn against the resume you sent. Mismatched titles, dates, or skills are a red flag. Keep both telling the same story.
