Major Changes

Caution

After updating from a previous release, your printer calibrations will be reset. This is due to changes in the driver code resulting in recalibration being required.

• We have a new versioning system! Rather than using SemVer we shall be using CalVer instead. This is a date based versioning system as we will aim to publish a new release once a month (with the addition of urgent bug-fix releases as well).
• Update machine configuration and macros and other stuff by @Atomique13 and @suchmememanyskill in #155. This has been long awaited and rigorously tested, so is a really fantastic QoL update for using Cosmos on the CC1!
  New cosmos.conf variables are:

  • heatsoak
  • adaptive_mesh
  • adaptive_purge
  • nozzle_z_homing
  • z_ideal_lifting_distance

Caution

• Delete your existing bed mesh when upgrading to/from a beta build. Otherwise your print plate may be damaged.
• Moonraker is once again accessible from port 80, so you should use [ip] in your slicer. No device UI is needed. Webcam stream is now at [ip]/webcam/?action=stream.
• You may have to clear your browser cache before accessing mainsail after this update.
• A new global config file cosmos.conf has been added. This will be used for all common options so you won’t have to edit multiple files.

OpenCentauri proudly presents EleDOOM!

There is something we have to tell you...

Well, maybe it was too good to be true... Or was it? This release happened to coincide with the 1st of April, and as custom we though we would throw in something fun. Cosmos does indeed exist, full klipper support is real... but in this special release you have to complete the first level of DOOM before the printer starts. For those keen adventurers who have already tried the image we all hope this little extra brought a smile to your face 😄 A massive thanks to everyone who has already opened issues and given feedback to help us make Cosmos even better and bring it one step closer to an official release!

Now keep practicing to see if you can beat wildtangents speed-run time.

A fully open-source operating system built completely using open-source tooling, for the Elegoo Centauri Carbon 1. That's right, it's finally here! Klipper, moonraker and mainsail/fluidd on your Elegoo Centauri Carbon 1!

Disclaimer!!

Don't install this firmware if you actually depend on using your printer. This is a beta version and there are most certainly rough corners which may get in the way of you printing. A lot of testing has happened by the team to try to ensure as smooth of an update as possible, but it's possible that something goes wrong which will require some extra steps to recover the printer from an unbootable state. We have yet to see a case where the printer has completely bricked it's self, but there is a small chance that either UART or FEL access will be required to recover. More information about this can be found here.

Install instructions

The process for installing Cosmos is pretty much the same as for installing patched-OC firmware, with the addition that a USB keyboard is required.

1. Download the latest OpenCentauri installer release
2. Insert a fat32-formatted thumbdrive into your pc
3. Extract the install_opencentauri folder from oc-installer.zip onto the root of the thumbdrive
4. Download Cosmos update.swu and place it inside the install_opencentauri folder on your thumbdrive
5. Eject your thumbdrive from your pc and insert it into your Centauri Carbon
6. On your Centauri Carbon, navigate to the files tab, then tap the Usb Drive menu, then tap the install_opencentauri folder
7. Touch hold the IMPORT_ME_DO_NOT_PRINT file, then tap Import
8. Run Install OpenCentauri (Local)
9. Restart when the install process finished
10. Remove the thumbdrive and connect the keyboard

During the first startup the bootloaders for the bed and hotend MCUs are updated. This processes can take a few minutes to complete. Do not turn off your machine during this time!

You should now be greeted by the OpenCentauri splash screen 🎉

Not everything is possible within the limits of cpu and ram available on the board but we will try to fit in as much functionality as possible.
