[Feature Request] Ability to set Speaker Volume

Unable to set speaker volume for a HAOS installation. Any chance that could be added?

If you're talking about the Assist Satellite app, it has the media player entity with volume since it runs the Linux Voice Assistant runtime.

That volume must be relative to some other volume control because it's extremely low compared to the deprecated Assist Microphone.

As long as the OS volume is always set to the maximum, the one for the Assist Satellite using LVA should be audible enough.

You can try controlling that volume for HAOS from the terminal using commands like that:

• For PipeWire (Modern Linux): wpctl set-volume @DEFAULT_AUDIO_SINK@ 1.0
• For PulseAudio: pactl set-sink-volume @DEFAULT_SINK@ 100%
• For ALSA: amixer sset Master 100

But all of all, the HA OS volume should be at the maximum by default without the need for doing that.

HAOS does not set device volume levels. Controls need to be exposed for that, HAOS doesn't provide any. HAOS is the managed installation, not some container or Linux-host variant. HAOS.

I don't have ideas about those details since I don't use the HAOS app, but I use LVA directly in a Docker container alongside HA. Also, you can check the hardware itself, such as the connected speaker to the device running HAOS; make sure it's set to the maximum volume. Regardless of what audio configurations inside HAOS can/cannot be controlled, they should be set by default. You have to mention as well how everything is going exactly so we can figure out more... For example, how much is the pipeline, and is the media player audible? And what else do you use for audio output? Or you can't hear anything at all?! If that's the case, it would be strange, as this app, AFAIK from the rest of the users, is functioning well in HAOS.

That operating system for HA is a version of Linux. I mean your usage with the Assist Satellite app.

Not a version, it uses the Linux kernel, with custom config options (such as the remappable IRQ I helped get enabled to support certain devices). The Assist Satellite "app" through HAOS doesn't set device volume and HAOS doesn't set it either, so it's low and will stay low. The previous "app" (deprecated) allowed for setting the device volume.

That media player entity only sets the volume for the assist pipeline and the music player inside LVA, without touching any settings in the OS.

sound_volume_multiplier: 1.0 if I recall, compensated for low volume because HAOS doesn't provide any options to configure onboard sound volume. That's why I posted this Feature Request, to add something to set the speaker volume (since there's no sound volume multiplier either.)

If you started experiencing this issue immediately after moving from Assist Microphone to Assist Satellite, then perhaps this option was used to control PulseAudio/PipeWire volume. I think the solution that could help with this is there: OHF-Voice/linux-voice-assistant#272
However, your case is still strange, as you're the only one who had this result, and the system volume should be at max by default!
