v7.5 adds the Web Annotation API that OMR search highlighting builds on. The public API changes are additions only; nothing Cantus already calls has changed.
OMR searches now outline every match on the manuscript. Highlights have been missing since the v5 to v6 upgrade dropped Diva's highlight plugin. Results are drawn as Diva annotations: - Selecting a result in the list frames it and selects its box; clicking a box in the viewer marks its row, loading more rows when the result is not listed yet. - A new search, a field change, or leaving the search view clears the boxes, and a response arriving after a switch to text search is ignored.
📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughDiva adds annotation loading, rendering, and selection, plus configurable static-image CORS handling. Cantus maps OMR result boxes to Diva annotations and synchronizes selection between annotations and search-result rows. The changes also update image utilities, HTML sanitization, styling, test pages, and build tooling. ChangesDiva annotation and static-image handling

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Do not overwrite the saved disabled state when access is already blocked.
setFilterAccessBlocked(true) always writes divaFilterWasDisabled from the current disabled value. The method can run twice with blocked = true. For example, applyFilterPreview runs on every source change, so this happens when the user moves between two non-CORS static pages in Page View. On the second call, every control is already disabled, so the saved state becomes "true". A later setFilterAccessBlocked(false) then restores disabled = true. This happens on a CORS page and also in closeFilterPreview. Elm does not reset the DOM disabled property unless its own virtual attribute changes. The filter controls and Save view then stay disabled for the rest of the session.
Record the original state only when no saved state exists.

## Summary
In Diva 7.5.2, `setFilterAccessBlocked(true)` overwrites each control's saved disabled state on every call. A second blocked call saves the already-forced `disabled = true` state. Unblocking then leaves previously enabled filter controls and Save view disabled.
Reported by request of @ahankinson while reviewing the vendored Diva update in Cantus. This issue belongs upstream, outside the scope of the Cantus OMR highlighting changes.
## Affected area
`src/diva.ts`, method `setFilterAccessBlocked`, including both the `.diva-modal-sidebar` controls and the Save view button.
`applyFilterPreview` calls this method when the filter source changes. `closeFilterPreview` also calls it to restore access.
## Reproduction
1. Use Page View with static images loaded without CORS.
2. Move between two non-CORS static pages so that `setFilterAccessBlocked(true)` runs twice on the same controls.
3. Switch to a CORS-enabled page, or close the filter preview so that `setFilterAccessBlocked(false)` runs.
4. Check whether controls that were originally enabled remain disabled.
The state overwrite follows directly from the vendored implementation. The browser reproduction has not been run.
## Required change
Save the original `disabled` state only when `dataset.divaFilterWasDisabled` is undefined. Apply this guard to both the sidebar controls and the Save view button. Continue forcing controls to disabled while blocked. On unblocking, restore the saved state and remove the saved marker.
## Acceptance criteria
- Repeated blocked calls preserve the original disabled state.
- Unblocking restores originally enabled controls to enabled.
- Originally disabled controls remain disabled.
- Save view follows the same rules.
- Regression coverage includes repeated blocking followed by unblocking.

Thanks, this restores a feature we've been missing since the v5 → v6 upgrade, and the write-up (behaviour, ID scheme, known limitations) made it easy to follow. The Cantus-side logic reads cleanly: filtering out boxes Diva would reject, the generation counter for IDs, and deferring highlights until viewer:loaded all look right.
A few things before merge, in rough priority order:
- Stacked base. This targets
diva/7-css-namespacing(#1001), notmain. Please make sure #1001 merges first and retarget/rebase afterwards. The rebuiltcantus-min.js/cantus-min.csswill likely conflict, so rebuild them after the rebase rather than resolving by hand. - CodeRabbit's two findings are in vendored Diva. Both look valid to me (
setFilterAccessBlockedoverwriting the saved disabled state on repeated calls; annotation panel left open aftersetAnnotations([])). Since the PR says the vendored files are byte-identical to the v7.5.2 tag, I'd rather not patch them in place. Could we open an issue on the diva.js repo or talk to Andrew about the first fix? The second one does affect Cantus. See my inline comment about the details panel. - Tests. There's no coverage for the new logic in
DivaBackend(ID generation, theOMR_HIGHLIGHT_ID_PATTERNround trip, skipping invalid boxes, pendingHighlightsflush) orResultView.setSelectedResult.ResultView.spec.jsalready has the fixtures to extend. - Smaller notes inline (empty-
boxesrobustness, first-box mismatch, docstrings).

There was a problem hiding this comment.
The old code used _.map(model.get('boxes'), _.clone), which tolerated a missing boxes. pluck('boxes') hands undefined through, and applyHighlights then calls regions.forEach on it, which throws a TypeError. zoomToResult and the result template already assume boxes is an array, so this is probably fine in practice. Still, a || [] here (or (regions || []).forEach in applyHighlights) keeps a single malformed Solr doc from breaking every highlight. Non-blocking.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
highlightIdsByResult records the first valid box for each result, but zoomToResult always frames boxes[0]. If boxes[0] is skipped by the filter (unknown folio, bad rect) while a later box is valid, the viewer frames box 0 and then selects a different box, and no selection is drawn on the framed one. It's an edge case, but it would be easy to make the two agree. For example, zoomToResult could frame the first box that was actually drawn, or focusRegion could be given the box index too.

selectAnnotation also opens Diva's "Annotation details" panel (per CodeRabbit's reading of viewer-element.ts). Since these annotations have no body, is the panel empty or noisy when you click a result row? Did you check this in the browser? If it opens on every result click and stays open after the highlights are cleared, that's worth handling, either upstream (see the general comment) or with an option to select without opening the panel.

Two small things. (a) this.children.each plus toggleClass runs over every rendered row on each selection. It's fine at 100 rows, but a single stored selectedModel and toggling just the previous and new row would be cheaper. (b) selectResultAt in the provider calls this on this.resultView without checking isDestroyed(). The provider listens on manuscriptChannel for its whole lifetime, so a late highlight:selected after the list is torn down would hit a destroyed view. Probably unreachable, since the highlights are cleared on destroy, but a guard matches what you did in resultFetchCallback. Please also add a spec next to the existing ones in ResultView.spec.js.

Agree with CodeRabbit that this is a real bug. Since the file is meant to match upstream v7.5.2, I'd suggest fixing it in DDMAL/diva.js and picking it up in the next vendor bump, rather than diverging here. Could we open an issue on the diva.js repo or talk to Andrew about this fix?

Same as the CodeRabbit finding here, plus this one is user-visible in Cantus. See my comment on focusRegion. Let's talk to Andrew about what he thinks a timeline on an upstream diva.js fix would take, and if we need a temporary cantus-side workaround, or if we can pin this until the upstream fix is made.

Diva.js is open source. You can file an issue, but also propose a PR to fix it too, if it's time sensitive. 😁

See above and in-line comments! I'm going to push this through as a comment, and not as requested changes because it is functional now, but definitely some of the comments (especially re: the stack merging order!!! #1001 has to merge first. Then retarget this PR to main, rebase, and rebuild cantus-min.js and cantus-min.css. Prod serves the committed bundles in nginx/static, so stale ones would ship the wrong code!).
Otherwise ok to ship without adddressing right now are the setFilterAccessBlocked bug, and the || [] guard, the first-box mismatch, the isDestroyed() check, the setSelectedResult performance note and the tests. Tests can probably/definitely be a followup/later PR.
Closes #1012.
Summary
The OMR search now outlines every match in the manuscript. Highlights have been missing since the Diva v5 -> v6 upgrade dropped the highlight plugin. This PR adopts Diva v7.5.2, whose new Web Annotation API draws the boxes.
Behaviour

DivaBackendkeeps each page's canvas id next to its image URI.omr-highlight-<generation>-<result>-<box>. The result index maps a clicked box back to its row. The generation changes with every search, because Diva never clears its selected id; a reused id would show a new search's box as already selected.setAnnotations()reject the whole set.Known limitations / follow-ups
