Code of Conduct

Our Pledge

We as members, contributors, and leaders of the Clinical Quality Artificial Intelligence community pledge to make participation a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, visible or invisible disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socioeconomic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, caste, colour, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.

We are a community of nurses, nursing students, healthcare educators, clinical specialists, and developers. We pledge to act and interact in ways that contribute to an open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive, and healthy community — in the spirit of the NMC Code's values of kindness, respect, and professional responsibility.

Our Standards

Examples of behaviour that contributes to a positive environment:

  • Using welcoming and inclusive language
  • Respecting different clinical experience levels — a student nurse's perspective is as valid as a consultant's
  • Gracefully accepting constructive feedback on both code and clinical content
  • Focusing on what is best for patients, students, and the nursing community
  • Showing empathy towards other community members
  • Acknowledging the emotional weight of healthcare work

Examples of unacceptable behaviour:

  • The use of sexualised language or imagery, and sexual attention or advances of any kind
  • Trolling, insulting or derogatory comments, and personal or political attacks
  • Public or private harassment
  • Publishing others' private information (including patient data or clinician identifiers) without explicit permission
  • Dismissing contributions on the basis of clinical seniority, specialty, or technical skill
  • Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional healthcare or technology setting

Clinical Responsibility

As a healthcare-adjacent open-source community, we hold an additional standard:

  • Never share real patient data in issues, pull requests, discussions, or code — even anonymised data should be treated with caution
  • Flag clinical safety concerns promptly — do not delay reporting content that could harm patients (see SECURITY.md)
  • Respect professional boundaries — this platform creates educational tools; it does not provide individual clinical advice

Enforcement Responsibilities

Community leaders (primarily the founding team) are responsible for clarifying and enforcing our standards. They will take appropriate and fair corrective action in response to any behaviour they deem inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies within all community spaces — GitHub issues, pull requests, discussions, emails, and any other official CQAI communication channels. It also applies when an individual is officially representing the community in public spaces.

Enforcement

Instances of abusive, harassing, or otherwise unacceptable behaviour may be reported to:

📧 nursingcitizendevelopment@gmail.com

All complaints will be reviewed and investigated promptly and fairly. All community leaders are obligated to respect the privacy and security of the reporter.

Enforcement Guidelines

Community leaders will follow these guidelines in determining consequences:

1. Correction Impact: Minor unprofessional conduct. Consequence: A private written warning with an explanation of the violation.

2. Warning Impact: A single serious incident or a pattern of minor incidents. Consequence: A formal warning. No unsolicited interaction with involved parties for a specified period. Violating these terms may lead to a temporary or permanent ban.

3. Temporary Ban Impact: A serious violation of community standards, or sustained inappropriate behaviour. Consequence: A temporary ban from any interaction or public communication within the community.

4. Permanent Ban Impact: Demonstrating a pattern of violation of community standards, harassment, or clinical endangerment. Consequence: A permanent ban from all community interaction.

Attribution

This Code of Conduct is adapted from the Contributor Covenant, version 2.1, and extended with healthcare-specific responsibilities appropriate to the CQAI community.
