Can't Paste External Content in Google Docs when Dark Mode Theme is on

What happened?

I'm unable to paste external content in Google Docs when the Dark Mode Theme is on.

I see the following error box pop up:

Try reloading as a first step. See what else you can do to fix this error.

Help us improve to prevent this from happening in the future."

This happens across multiple accounts and with any content generated outside of another Google Doc, so far as I can tell. Copying content from one doc to another seems to work just fine.

I checked for Clipboard permissions in the Zen Browser settings and they are active.

This behavior does NOT occur on Firefox or Brave Browser.

This seems to have just started after the recent update to 1.19b.

When the Dark Mode theme is off, pasting into Google Docs seems to work just fine.

Steps to reproduce

With Dark Mode Theme on, copy content from any webpage or external source (not another Google Doc). Examples include Wikipedia articles and content from the AI Summaries in search results.

Open a Google Doc, paste the content. You will likely see the same error I encounter about reloading the page.

If you then go turn the dark mode theme that came with Zen off, you should be able to successfully paste without concern.

That dark mode is an extension. Did this come with Zen? I don't recognise it.

@Propheticus I believe it did. I installed Zen fresh.

Maybe it came installed after you signed in to your Firefox sync account and it synced past installed extensions?
I'll check when home, but this doesn't look like it comes with Zen to me.

@fred795 I just checked and can confirm this extension is not part of Zen.

Just to be double sure:
Could you check the Extension ID of this extension in about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox (you can ignore the version warning on top) ?

Hey @Propheticus , thanks! I was sure it came with Zen, but it must have come in after I signed into sync.

That doesn't look like the same extension though. Its name was "Dark Mode" not "Dark".

Dark is just a default UI theme that comes with Firefox. Zen no longer support nor uses Firefox themes.
A UI Theme does not touch or change the look of websites so this would also not explain website breakage.
Zen by default only comes with the "System theme - auto", but perhaps settings sync also added the Dark theme.

I honestly don't know how this ended up here. I didn't install anything that I know of.

I just checked Firefox (haven't used it in years) and it looks like it has the Dark theme, but no Dark Mode. This extension isn't there..

I don't have any Zen mods, and the only extensions i have are disabled (the Dark Mode was enabled when I was having the issue).

It doesn't look like i can even access the extensions store in Zen, so I'm at a loss.
