• Groups: Have members in usr_to_group table + extra_perms (jsonb) for managers.
• Granular ACLs: Centralized system in granular_acls.rs for adding/removing permissions across different resource types.

Current Operations Tracked:

• Folders: folder.update, folder.add_owner, folder.remove_owner
• Groups: group.edit, group.adduser, group.removeuser
• All operations call audit_log() which is enterprise-only (no-op in OSS)

Authorization Model:

• Folder admins = folder owners OR workspace admins
• Group admins = users with write permission in group's extra_perms OR workspace admins

Existing History Patterns:

• Scripts, flows, and apps have version history tables (script with parent_hashes, flow_version, app_version)
• Frontend displays version history with deployment messages and timestamps
• No equivalent for folders/groups currently

Design Decision: Two Approaches

Option 1: New Dedicated Tables (Recommended)

Create separate tables for folder and group permission change history.

• ✅ Clean separation of concerns
• ✅ Available in both OSS and Enterprise editions

Option 2: Enhanced Audit Log Usage

Leverage the existing audit table with better filtering and display.

Pros:

• ✅ No new tables needed
• ✅ Centralized audit trail
• ✅ Already captures all operations

Cons:

• ❌ Only available in Enterprise edition (audit_oss.rs is no-op)
• ❌ Generic structure not optimized for permission history
• ❌ Harder to query efficiently for specific folder/group
• ❌ Requires Enterprise features for OSS users
• ❌ Less structured data in parameters jsonb field

Created two new tables with simplified structure (no before/after state or descriptions):

• folder_permission_history: Tracks folder permission changes
• group_permission_history: Tracks group permission changes

Fields in each table:

• id, workspace_id, folder_name/group_name, changed_by, changed_at, change_type, owner_affected/member_affected

Backend Logging

Permission changes are now automatically logged in these locations:

Folders (folders.rs):

• add_owner() - logs "add_owner" when owner is added
• remove_owner() - logs "remove_owner" when owner is removed
• update_folder() - logs "update_permissions" when owners or extra_perms change

Groups (groups.rs):

• add_user() - logs "add_member" when member is added
• remove_user() - logs "remove_member" when member is removed
• update_group() - logs "update_summary" when group is modified

Granular ACLs (granular_acls.rs):

• add_granular_acl() - logs "update_extra_perms" for folders/groups
• remove_granular_acl() - logs "remove_extra_perms" for folders/groups

Reason: Focused on backend implementation as it represents a complete, testable unit. Frontend can be added in a follow-up PR once the backend is reviewed and the database migration is applied.
