This is a very intermittent problem so it has been hard to diagnose the cause of it. When an SD card is inserted into the SD card reader, the NodeMCU can fail to boot. As a workaround, a 3s delay was added to the beginning of the sensorlogger.ino program to allow the SD card to be inserted just after boot. This workaround doesn't always work either, but it's more consistent.

SD card was replaced on 9/18. So far it has booted fine with the new SD card, but due to the intermittent nature of the problem, it's probably too early to determine if the issue is truly fixed.
