Text Spacing and Resize Text used in combination?

I thought there was already guidance on whether Text Spacing and Resize were to be tested in combination with one another or separately, but I cannot find any mention in either Understanding document. And I guess, since Resize does mention REflow (and vice versa), whether Text Spacing is combined with Reflow too.

Please provide clarity. Thanks!

Hi Mike! I have recollection of vigorous discourse about the sub-elements of 1.4.8 Visual Presentation being addressed separately or concurrently. I don‘t recall discussion about evaluating resize and reflow simultaneously.

if a resize is the result of zooming, it's equivalent to changing the viewport size, and as theoretically at least all SCs apply at all viewport sizes unless otherwise specified (like Reflow), then text spacing would need to be evaluated at the particular viewport size that matches the zooming to 200% text size...

if the text resizing is achieved some other way (maybe with +/- controls, or setting a user agent/system wide setting), then it's not quite as clear ... but logically i'd again say that after resizing, other SCs still apply (like, you wouldn't pass it if after resizing for some reason the text contrast was reduced all of a sudden, just because it's not spelled out that contrast SCs also apply in combination with text resizing).

so, long story short, I believe that logically yes, even after resizing all other SCs still need to be satisfied.

(and yes, i can already hear the howls of "but that means that for testing, you need to potentially test all possible permutations" ... which yes, sadly is true)

I agree that text spacing needs to be tested at different page variations including 320CSS pixels as Patrick notes.

Agreed, this follows from the conformance requirement for full pages Note 3:

A full page includes each variation of the page that is automatically presented by the page for various screen sizes (e.g. variations in a responsive web page). Each of these variations needs to conform (or needs to have a conforming alternate version) in order for the entire page to conform.

I think Understanding Conformance could use a refresh as I don’t see anything specific to Note 3 there. Also, is the formatting a bit off?
