Hi all,
I am Ivan, with me and a friend recognized that getting to know new codebases on GitHub (and not only) is quite hard. Especially if you don't have a mentor or they do not have time for you. This said we are trying now to build something which can help people get up to speed on new codebases. I was hoping that we can have a nice discusion here on your opinion on the matter.
We believe that one of the nicest ways to get started is true visuals, in the case of code these are diagrams. And so we are building automatic diagram generation (as we want them to be always up-to date). We use static analysis first and on top of that LLMs. Here is a generation for the vsphere-automation-sdk-python repository:
https://github.com/CodeBoarding/GeneratedOnBoardings/blob/main/vsphere-automation-sdk-python/on_boarding.md
Further VMWare (Broadcom) is a huge company so I am sure that there are some processes for on-boarding, I would love to hear what they look like and if our diagrams can help in any shape or form?
Any feedback on the diagram and on the topic is more than welcome! As said we are here to have a discussion :)
Full disclosure: we're trying to turn this into a startup, but we're still in a very early stage and figuring out what will actually be useful for people.
