Users have complained a few times that the current favicon of Bonjourr is a bit too colorful and distracting compared to the default one in Chrome and other browsers. I can see how that might be a problem, and knowing that we already have a monochrome version of our icon we made specifically for Edge, that could be a solution 🤔

Personally, I like the colours, but I can see how that will be an individual preference. Why are people complaining, given that Bonjourr allows the user to set the favicon to whatever they like? Are they not finding that setting, or is it something else?

Yeah I think lots of people won't even care to check the settings for these things. As nerds on GitHub, we're more likely to check out every possible setting when we install something, but this isn't realistically what the vast majority of people do.

Our favicon option is a bit flawed too in that you can't upload an image, just use emojis, so it's something we could improve as well.

I'm thinking we could do something that would also benefit quick links. We could choose between 4 types of icon:

  • the default icon
  • an icon in a predefined list
  • upload a image
  • specify a distant URL

No idea about the UI though.
