icons in taskbar are "poorer" for example WhatsApp one is not showing notification badges (numbers) for unread messages

thanks but nothing changed. I feel is an EP setting and not a windows one (since icons are ok with original taskbar*)

by the way the issue could be only in WhatsApp icon; Outlook one show envelop for new messages (I mean is not the "poor" icon version)

Did you verify that badges are enabled in the taskbar settings?

yes, also in wa settings (I didn't believe there was a specific setting)
With a new message arrived it is sufficient to toggle Taskbar style win 11 or win 10 to see icon with or without notification number

I believe issue started from "recent" (2 months ago) WA Desktop update, and now new messages are with icon this way ONCE when arriving, after I open WA Desktop and leave the chat unread (I mean I still have message to read) the highlighting disappear but I wish still to have the unread messages number

omg no! Since 2 months I have WA taskbar icon ALWAYS without new messages badge
Trying to give some hints
-the icon AT BEST is flashing*
-with a new message arrived, toggling win 11 or win 10 taskbar the icon switch from "plain" or the one with "1"

*this to say: even flashing is not so useful since stops as soon I open WA (if I avoid to click the chat with the new message I expect to see "1" in the icon)

Ok, then I suggest you close this and create a discussion as this appears to be a bug where badges are not working with the windows 10 (explorerpatcher) taskbar. It will ask you for information as part of creating one. Please fill it all out.

If this is happening with the windows 11 taskbar, it is not a bug with EP.
