administrator

In Nimbul, there are several types of administrators: system administrators, provider account administrators and cluster administrators. For more information, see Permissions and Roles.

cluster

A set of servers that are grouped together for easier management. Clusters allow you to “slice” your cloud accounts to suit particular functions or user groups. You can define various server profiles in each cluster. See Clusters and Servers.

object

A type of system information or data in Nimbul, such as a server, a cluster or a provider account. See the object hierarchy.

provider account

A cloud computing account, such as an Amazon EC2 account. Compare user account.

publisher

A configuration for creating summaries of various provider account information, such as DNS host files and server scripts. See Publishing Account Information.

security group

A set of firewall rules that can be applied to a server profile. Each server profile has a default security group; additional groups can be specified as needed.

server

In Nimbul, a server may be (1) a profile in a cluster, used to start instances and manage DNS, server operations and tasks (this is the most common use of the term in this documentation); (2) an image (AMI) used by a provider account; (3) a service exposed to parts of your infrastructure.

server task

A server task consists of an operation and schedule. Operations, such as MySQL snapshots, are scheduled to run periodically or at a specific time. Server tasks are defined on the server details page.

service

An external or internal service provider that you need to expose to the rest of your infrastructure (e.g., DynDNS). See Admin Controls.

user account

A Nimbul account, consisting of a Nimbul user name, password, public key and set of access rules. Compare provider account.
