prefix + ctrl-s destroys zoomed layout

Hi, I use tmux zoom feature a lot because I work on 13" screen and recently I'm getting an annoying issue with tmux-resurrect and mainly tmux-continuum because saving the session destroys the zoomed layout, restoring it to non-zoomed one (and somewhat malformed). With continuum this happens any time out of a sudden, with resurrect, anytime I ctrl-s.

Hi,
do you have the latest tmux-resurrect version? Also, what tmux version are you running, tmux -V?
Can you please attach the content of your .tmux/resurrect/last file?

Saving zoomed layouts works like this:

1. zoomed window is un-zoomed, required in order for step 2 to work properly
2. layout "snapshot" is saved
3. window is zoomed again

The above should happen very, very fast - barely noticeable to the user. Any work done (eg typing) in zoomed window should be un-interrupted.

Please provide the above info and we'll see what can be done!

Hi Bruno, yes I'm using the latest, I've updated all plugins with prefix + shift-u. I've tried tmux 1.9 on Ubuntu and tmux 2 on OS X, behavior is the same.

It seems there's an issue with un-zooming and then zooming back, even if I do this myself, I don't get back exactly to my previous state, for example:

1. Get a window split into two panes horizontally.
2. Get to the top pane.
3. Zoom it.
4. Fill it with Enter, so that cursor goes to the bottom.
5. clear, so that cursor goes to the top.
6. Zoom out.
7. Zoom in.

In 5, cursor was at the top, in 7 it's not (at last for me), so the state is not being recovered without notice. With resurrect's save or continuum this turns into a sudden cursor jump.

If this can't be circumvented, I believe some option to avoid zoom-out/zoom-in and not saving zoom state could be provided.

Despite this description I've given, I'll try again at home, because originally my report was regarding not getting back properly to zoomed state (it zooms out for saving but zooming back didn't work), and I want to provide more detail about this.

At the environment I'm using now, when I have Vim zoomed at the top pane and try prefix + ctrl-s, zoom-in/zoom-out doesn't happen instantly, it takes a bit of time (by the way, I have other several windows open, around 5, each with their own pane state).

Ah ok, I've found the behavior I was after initially.

1. Get a window split into two panes horizontally.
2. Get to the top pane.
3. Zoom it.
4. Switch to a second window.
5. prefix + ctrl-s to save tmux environment.
6. Go back to first window.

Initially this window was zoomed in the first pane, for me it has lost its zoomed state and the bottom got a blank window, I have to focus it for refreshing and get the terminal displayed correctly. This also happens when I focus another window like the browser, and let the
the terminal open with tmux-continuum running, when I get back to the terminal I find it as described.

thanks for the detailed description.

Based on what you wrote I think we might have 2 problems:

1. zooming + un-zooming back not consistent: I was able to reproduce this issue, the steps are described here
2. zoomed window messed up after save: this seems to be the bigger problem, described in the last post.

I can consistently reproduce issue 1. It seems to depend on executing clear (step 5) in the window. Any suggestions what to do about this one? Since it can be reproduced without tmux-resurrect do you think we should report this to core tmux team?

As for issue 2, I can't reproduce this one. In step 6 I see everything as it should be: pane zoomed properly. Do you run any particular program in zoomed pane?

My bad, the 2nd issue happens for me when I have Vim opened at the top paned that was zoomed initially. I then change focus and do prefix + ctrl-s, when back to original window it's screwed.

Notice that this is my relevant conf in .tmux.conf:

For me, three things may happen when I'm back to the window with the zoomed pane with Vim:

• The window is un-zoomed, but the contents of panes may be blank.
• The window is still zoomed, but it's stuck (for example, sometimes I'm unable to get out of vim, or type anything meaningful, I have to close gnome terminal and open it again for it to get back to a usable state).
• Nothing wrong happens, have to try again.

Notice this is my description of instability using gnome terminal on last released Ubuntu. I'll try further on OS X when I get back home.

Also, regarding issue 1, yeah, this one is a tmux issue, I'm going to report it at any time I find available, although I'm not sure whether it can be solved by them so I guess this cursor jump may have an option to be avoided in the plugin.

OK, I was able to reproduce issue 2 in OS X too, I've noticed that I need to have some file opened in Vim (not just having it open) zoomed at the top pane.

I'm on Archlinux now, this is what I get from tmux-continuum if I'm with a zoomed pane and go do some stuff elsewhere like browsing the web and get back to terminal after a while:

If I move the cursor inside the Vim window, the lower pane suddenly hides itself.

The top pane contains Vim with some code (which I left zoomed), and lower pane was just zsh prompt. When in this state the formelly hidden pane gets visible but blank.
