Virus detection and safety considerations

Ninja is open source and should only be installed from trusted sources, such as this GitHub repository (https://github.com/szapp/Ninja/releases). List of official downloads. Downloads from third-party sites are not verified and may be unsafe.

Antivirus detection strategies may change and cause false positives. To ensure authenticity, checksums are provided for users to verify their downloads.

Currently, the project lacks financial support for code signing.

What you can do:

• Report verified files as non-threats to your antivirus provider.
• Lend your vote to the community score on platforms like VirusTotal.

  Collection
• Add exclusion rules for Ninja.dll in your antivirus settings if necessary.
• Do not redistribute or bundle Ninja via mirrors or third-party services. Always link the original source.

A code signing certificate was issued to help verify the integrity of the software. It should be available soon.

As of 28 June, 2025 Windows Security flags Ninja as a virus. I believe this to be a false positive but I am commenting because the maintainer claims to have issued a cert for code signing, which I doubt. Look, I know its expensive. But you can't just lie to people.

Thanks for your comment and reporting that the issue still remains.
However, I resent the accusation of being called a liar. A code signing certificate has been issued thanks to the support of the community. The possession of a certificate, however, does not magically solve the problem.

Signing the software means building and releasing a new version. That has not happened yet. Don't forgot that this is free software developed in someone's spare time. Intrinsic motivation is the only driver here and time is not always available to spare.

I take friendly reminders to heart and (sadly) donations can boost the project in my priorities. But accusations and demands will help no one.
