This branch is intended to serve as a base for OpenWRT based Wemo
development. It takes a different approach than
embedded-WeMo_2_0/openwrt. The work is embedded-WeMo_2_0/openwrt
reworks the OpenWRT build system with symbolic links into the tree
that has evolved from Gemtek's SDK. This branch attempts to adapt the
Gemtek tree layout to OpenWRT rather than the other way round.
The first goal of this effort is to isolate an OpenWRT SDK that can be
built without any Belkin software. An image built from the SDK will
boot to a shell prompt. This will provide a baseline for other
manufacturers to produce an OpenWRT build environment that can be used
as a base for Wemo applications.
The second goal is to replace modified versions of open source
applications with OpenWRT packages. Where local changes have been
made to open source application, those changes will be turned into
patches applied to vanilla upstream sources. This is important to
ensure license conformance. The modifications need to be releasable
to customers and upstream authors. The best format to release those
changes are patches.
The third goal of this effort is to repackage Wemo applications into
OpenWRT packages. That facilitates building Wemo applications on
other manufacturer OpenWRT SDKs. It also provides isolation between
the application firmware and the rest of the Gemtek SDK.
The base of this branch starts with
embedded-WeMo_2_0/tarballs/backfire_10.03_source.tar.bz2 which is
mostly equivalent with the upstream OpenWRT backfire branch at SVN
revision 20728. There are a few directories in the tar file that are
not in the upstream tree. The origin of these files is unclear. This
don't seem crucial. But for the historical record, here's a list of
those files not in the upstream tree:
