WaterMeterKit Current Usage reports huge, nonsensical rates after ESPHome upgrade

I upgraded ESPHome 2023.11.6→2025.12.5 and rebuilt all devices a week ago, including WaterMeterKit. In Home Assistant I started seeing huge, nonsensical water flow rates.

Quick search shows that pulse_meter has issues:

• PULSE_METER broken after updating to 2022.10.0 esphome/issues#3730
• pulse_meter seems to have broken with 2023.8.0 esphome/issues#4807

Guessing you saw the PRs mentioned in the related issues. If not: esphome/esphome#12360 fixes this for me, for a DIY sensor. (I am not using Watermeterkit.)

I don't know if you can change the ESPHome configuration of the device, but if you can:

I didn't have to time to dig there. Just rolled back the component to the version mentioned there to work. And it went back to normal.

Aside, just in case any future reader feels things were running fine beyond 2023.7.1 (like as per the first post in this issue, @saaj upgraded from 2023.11.6 to 2025.12.5), esphome/esphome#12360 (comment) may explain:

The second bug described in this PR and the other PR as well exists since version 2024.5.0.

So, 2024.4.2 and earlier may work too, if only affected by that second bug.

(I am not using Watermeterkit. And I have only tested my setup with esphome/esphome#12360, not with specific older releases of ESPHome.)

As per esphome/issues#4807 (comment) this should be fixed in the upcoming 2026.2.0 The pre-release is ready for your testing, @dwainscheeren and all.
