Sankey diagram doesn't work on small screens with many groups

Description

I have seen that the diagram in the dashboard is broken, at least on my devices. I tried with Safari and Chrome, running on latest macOS 26.

Environment

• Browser: Chrome and Safari, latest versions
• OS: macOS 26.2
• Ocular: 2.1.0

That is very strange, from what version did you upgrade? Does the rest look normal, are income/expenses still correct? You can turn on privacy mode in case you want to provide a larger screenshot.

Are there any errors in the developer console? Due to the sensitivity of the data it's hard to reproduce it properly, if it's by any means possible for you to "obfuscate" or "randomize" the data while keeping it broken and providing an export, that'd really help me (keep in mind that this will export every year, however you can just cut out the years not affected):

Does it work again after reverting back to a previous version such as v2.0.0? The data should be fully compatible, either way it's best to make a backup of you're data 😅

So basically Watchtower updated Ocular automatically, but a lot of stuff changed with v2 so it was obviously broken. I changed my docker-compose configuration and it was working fine but it had this problem. Everything else is working and the data is there.

I could send you the data if you want, just let me know which files you need exactly and how can I send you the download link privately.

Yes the problem is still there on 2.0.0.

Oh, alright. Yeah I can only advise not to use tools such as watchtower just like you should always pin your versions in a package.json file.
I'm glad it all worked out and with v2 upgrading should be much easier - but for some projects this can end with corrupted data or worse 😬

Yes I know, but for a lot of projects using the latest version works fine and so I have always everything up to date. But yeah I do know the risks. I do have a lot of backups anyway.

So I can send you the data but do you need just a JSON export or the whole /data/genesis content?

Aaaah, gotcha, that makes sense :) I see latest used by many apps I use myself, makes things easier, just some have fixed versions.

A json export should work for now, via the tools button as seen in the screenshot above. I'll have a look at it tomorrow morning :)

I checked out the revision v2.1.0 locally and tested it with the data you provided but I couldn't find any issues with it - although, I noticed that you have a very, very large amounts of expense groups that ECharts (the library used for all charts) tries to fit on a screen that might be the issue. Under a screen size of 820px in height it looks just like in your screenshot, could you confirm that it looks normal on a bigger screen? Let's say Full HD or even 2k/4k without any Zoom?

Well I am using a normal MacBook that has a resolution of 2560x1600. That should be plenty. Then maybe macOS by default has a x2 scaling so might cause this issue. I will try on a monitor when I can.

Nevermind, I just tested it with my 13" Macbook Air and I'm seeing exactly what you have in your screenshot. I'll have a look at how we could deal with many groups, but displaying all on small screens just won't be possible I'm afraid :/ Same thing with tables on mobile devices, without a whole different kind of displaying the data it just doesn't work. Do you have anything in mind?

Well that's ok, not a deal breaker. I also use a 4K and 1440p monitor when I am home so that's not a problem. Good thing that at least is reproducible.

Absolutely! Not sure if I'll come up with a fix until next release as I'd consider it an edge case, but I'll have another look at it sooner or later :)
