Ideas how to update the theme?

Fuwari is currently distributed as a template repository. While this enables very customization, it is hard to update the theme on the fly for existing projects when the upstream receives updates. Any ideas?

Ways I can think of:

• stupidly manually copy-and-paste new files from the fuwari repo
• use a git submodule for src/content, but then it is unable to manage stuff like src/config.ts, astro.config.mjs, public/

At first glance, I don't think there's much need to stay strictly aligned with the upstream project.

As you mentioned, this repository isn't boilerplate—it's a template. I'd recommend making modifications to better suit your own maintenance needs.

P.S.
There will likely be no major breaking changes going forward. (Currently, only dependabot is actively working, so we're essentially in maintenance mode.)
Even if there are changes, you shouldn't feel compelled to blindly follow upstream updates. Instead, it's better to make your own adjustments. (This refers to changes like Tailwind v4 or the next major Astro update.)
