TISEAN install

I wanted to explore TISEAN. ChatGPT gives generic advice on installation (!apt-get install tisean), but this doesn't seem to work. NB, ChatGPT specified the bang in the Terminal.

Which instance of cocalc are you running? something local, or cocalc.com, or somewhere else? In general, this installs software globally. Either you have to do this differently or it's not possible to do for you.

Out of curiosity, why would TISEAN show up in ChatGPT if it's not available? Just because the AI says apt-get install whatever you asked about?

well, an LLM tool like that does "hallucinate", which is the negative word for "being creative". hence it could be made up. it's much better to look up install instructions at the main source, i.e. the website of the tool.

well, I was able to roughly follow the build instructions in a cocalc project, based on the 22.04 line of software environments (the default)

i.e. I used the --prefix switch to put the compiled files somewhere separate. then, I found this in the bin subdir:

I don't know what this is or what it does, but at least running ./henon -l 10 did something that looks like it could make sense. hope this helps 🥳

The download page also mentions a binary, built for linux (x86). Version 3.0.0, though. I guess that should work right out of the box.

FWIW, I followed your method for compiling 3.0.1, but got a bunch of fortran errors:

The 3.0.0 bin method you specified works perfectly.
