For a similar reason that reactOS exists. To create an operating system that is from the ground up 100% binary compatible with macOS. being able to run on the same hardware with the same drivers in some cases while also being open source so that more hardware configurations can be used and the operating system can be improved by it's users and allow users to be in full control over it. Darling simply aims to make macOS applications function on another OS which will never be a proper solution to the problem of wanting something with the finesse and ease of use of macOS but open source, as it will come with all the frustrations and problems of Linux for the average user, a good chunk of which we cannot solve without entirely ditching the Linux side and hard focusing on macOS, which defeats the point of using Linux. We're looking to create something specifically to slot in place of macOS. Our only goal is to have everything that macOS can run, running on ravynOS. I hope I got the point across properly, if not I bet @mszoek could probably word this more elegantly to help. |

What are the reasons to not create a Linux kernel and userspace + Darling distribution?
As you probably don't want MacOS driver binary compatibility, also because it's much less effort.
