rancher password prompt

I installed K3OS from the ISO into a Gnome Boxes vm and am prompted to login. It says the friendly "(login with user: rancher)" but then prompts for a password. Since the readme (and everything I've Googled) says that there is no password, I've tried just hitting enter. I've also evantually tried rancher, admin, and nothing again. I always get "Login incorrect". I have no idea what is going on since I don't seem to see any evidence of anyone else asking about this. Maybe someone knows something weird I could have done. Any ideas?
