Link C++ library using setuptools building

As the title says, I am trying to build my pybind11 project using setuptools (https://pybind11.readthedocs.io/en/latest/compiling.html#building-with-setuptools) but the .cpp that I want to compile must be linked with a previously built C++ library.
The python example is great, but it only demonstrates a very small project.

Is that possible? Or if I have to link a library I can only do it by CMake build system?
