Size in branch figures without explanation

In nutshell.asc, in the Branches in a Nutshell section there are two graphs detailing the relationship between revisions, branches, and the HEAD pointer. Each of the boxes has the word "size" next to commit, tree, or blob but there is no corresponding discussion in the text for what that means. It's clearly not a column header as the items under size are either a fingerprint value, author's name, file name, etc.

I've read through most of the chapter and can't find anything that clues me into what size might mean in these diagrams.

The size is just a field of the record that registers the size of the present object. This is a self check addition for speed up of processing and coherency of the data. Adding this piece of information in the diagram is not really useful at this point of the book, until you really want to understand the guts of git:
