Questionable rendering of "special" characters

In the image below you can see some oddities that certain characters are rendered--specifically the gradient block characters which are textured weird and don't line up (when compared to other environments), the Nerdfont symbols which are unusually small, and the vertical bar character which is just slightly too large

I mainly run into this issue within cosmic-term, but it is also present in other cosmic applications such as the text editor. Below you can see how the text is supposed to be rendered (via gnome terminal)

I'd also like to point out the tiny gaps between bars in the fnm loading animation--this is also not normal behavior
