Unrelated, but what is being used to make the desktop look the way it does in one of the images used for the new update? (Couldn't find anywhere else to ask this)

Heya!

I assume you mean the top bar? I am using YASB for that.
Just worth mentioning that it is rather technical to customize it, because it requires some YAML knowledge for configuration and CSS knowledge for changing how it looks (tho there are some preset templates which might work for you).
