Python profiling

Hi there,

I tried to setup the parca server and a parca agent locally to profile my python application. However I did not find a way to get proper python symbols/references to my application, as I only get the C++ interpreter profiled.

Is this a premium feature available only on parca cloud or is there a way to achieve the same with the local server?

It should just work, what version of python are you using and where did it come from (like package manager, google sdk etc)? Do you see anything interesting in the parca-agent logs? If not can you run parca-agent with debug log level and see if there are any python messages? Thanks!

Apologies for the late reply, I had no more time to investigate further.

I installed the parca-agent and parca with snaps (latest/edge) and my python application was running in another snap. That snap was running python3.12

Oh, I might know what's happening. I installed a development snap with snap try so maybe that was the problem. I just retried with the same snap from the store and it worked fine. Sorry for the false alarm and thanks for the quick reply

Doesn't really sound like a false alarm to me, are you saying that python unwinding doesn't work if you use snap try to install python? That's probably a bug we want to fix.
