Build Micropython in WSL(Windows Subsystem for Linux).

Short instructions to Windows 10/11 users.

1. Install WSL and run Linux GUI apps on the Windows Subsystem for Linux
2. It is possible to integrate GitHub Desktop inside WSL2
   Run in PowerShell:

github-desktop

4. To view files in Windows Total Commander copy cd \\wsl$\Ubuntu\home\pc to the Total Commander command line.
5. Clone the code inside the WSL
6. ESP32: Setting up ESP-IDF and the build environment
7. ESP32: Building the firmware
   Done ESP32 port:
   
8. STM32: Cross Compiling Micropython on WSL for STM32
9. Connect PyBoard in WSL

I use WSL frequently, but avoid most of those tools 😛

An alternative:

• Clone MicroPython (or your fork of it) with git
  • (Not recursively!)
• Install mpbuild
  • Note that it has a dependency on docker
• $ mpbuild build [BOARD]
• Deploy firmware (depends on port)
  • But you might want to install WSL USB GUI to mount your device in WSL

What is the aim of this installation when you can use mpremote for unix port?

Actually pyboard.py is the old way, mpremote is the new way and generally recommended over pyboard.py.

mpremote seems to have something more about security; if I understand correctly, with it, you can choice if your computer is the 'master' in security (HID mode) or 1/. (VCP mode)...
I'm questioning about the real effect of a (VCP+HID) mode... in this case it's the computer which have to open a file system... but it depend if the computer do it, or not?

I'm not sure I understand the question, but running pyboard.py or mpremote on a computer is almost the same, except mpremote is newer and has some new features. In both cases the computer is remote-controlling MicroPython.
