Feeds for ocaml.org/community > Meetings

The list of meetings on http://ocaml.org/community/ is currently managed by hand.

I've written an event extractor (based on Glical [1]) that uses iCalendar feeds. The next step is to provide a list of feeds that should be used to generate that list of meetings.

Any help on providing that list of iCalendar feeds is welcome.

I'm not sure how iCal feeds work. What format do you want them in? Meetup provides RSS, Atom, and iCal (and Outlook). Their feeds only provide future events. Thus, to see examples, go to any group that has an upcoming event, click Our calendar on the left, and scroll to the bottom.

I mean iCal / iCalendar as in http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2445.txt

The iCal feeds provided by Meetup work fine. The only annoying thing is that, indeed, they only provide future events.

I think RSS or Atom shouldn't be used for this purpose. However if someone has good reasons for using them, I’m open to hear them.

Added the Cambridge meetup group. I should convince @lpw25 and @yallop to make an iCal feed for their compiler hacking sessions.

OCaml Labs has one but there's nothing upcoming.

Thank you Amir, the link to talks.cam.ac.uk was very useful because it showed a part of iCalendar that I missed (so I fixed glical to implement that missing part).

I've just added https://github.com/ocaml/ocaml.org/blob/master/script/meetings.ml, but it's not activated yet (i.e., it's not used by the building script nor by anything else).

One can try this script if glical 0.0.3 is installed. For instance, if glical.0.0.3 is installed with opam using the "system" ocaml compiler:

Note that meetings.ml will not work with glical 0.0.1 or 0.0.2.

Also, note that curl can take multiple URLs. (And you need curl to be installed of course, otherwise you may use wget for instance but you'll need to adapt the command.)

At the time of writing, glical.0.0.3 is not yet in opam. If you want to try it before it gets into opam, you can do something like (assuming you're in the git repo of ocaml.org)
